Biography

Dan Manolachescu is a veterinarian, ethologist and lecturer in equitation science at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca, with a professional and academic trajectory shaped by both scientific inquiry and personal resilience. His interdisciplinary background - spanning veterinary medicine, communication, ethology, and animal welfare - complements a long-standing engagement with equine behaviour and horse-human interaction. Formerly an accomplished athlete in equestrian and mountain sports, Dan experienced a life-altering cervical spinal cord injury that resulted in tetraparesis. This event became the catalyst for his transition from practitioner to researcher. Through equine-assisted therapy, not only navigated physical recovery but also developed a strong research focus on the therapeutic and emotional dimensions of interspecific interaction. His current academic work explores the neuroethology of emotional contagion in horse-human dyads, welfare oriented assessment tools, and adaptive riding for individuals with disabilities.
