Biography

Majid Katebi is a senior researcher for Cellular and Molecular research Center of Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. He graduated from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences with a PhD degree in Medical Histology in 2004. While in school, (2003- 2004) he visited Tokyo University to learn techniques required for oocyte nuclear transfer or oocyte reconstruction. To expand his knowledge as a stem cell biologist, he joined the lab of Prof. Bruce Cronstein at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at NYU Langone Health in 2006-2008. During his work there, he studied the role of Adenosine A2A receptors in the development of Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells. His works has given a better understanding of how adenosine A2A receptor agonists and antagonists have promising therapeutic potential for the prevention and treatment of connective tissue fibrosis, neurodegenerative diseases, immune-mediated control of cancer progression and in atrial fibrillation. His current research involves the study of the therapeutic potential of injectable hydrogels in combination with Lentiviral vector-mediated mesenchymal stem cells co-overexpression of Nerve Growth Factor and Bcl-2 to enhance nerve regeneration.
