Serge Kreiter, HDR, was teacher for 39 years and researcher for 45 years. He studied Zoology and Animal Biology at the University of Nice, then Animal Ecology at the University of Marseille, where he obtained his Master 2 (1981) and his Doctorate in Zoo-ecology (1985) then his HDR (1997) in animal population ecology. He was appointed director of the ENSAM-INRA Animal Ecology and Agricultural Zoology unit in Montpellier from 2000 to 2004 (30 people). He is the author of 160 scientific publications, 20 book chapters, 125 publications for international Congresses, 55 professional technical publications, editor of 13 books and 60 course handouts for students and holder of 2 patents. His research concerns the taxonomy of Phytoseiidae, predation, predators, biological control and integrated pest management in different perennial and market garden crops. He has had research and/or teaching collaborations in integrated plant protection, agricultural zoology, biological control, taxonomy and acarology, with several scientists from around the world, particularly in Europe (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia), North Africa (especially Morocco and Tunisia), Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Caribbean Zone, Indian Ocean, South Africa, Vietnam. He has been supervisor of 20 theses defended and 3 still to be defended. He has been responsible for several funded scientific projects and has described 2 new genera and 35 new species for Science (and has at least 10 more to describe). He was a Distinguished Professor from 2011 to 2021 and has been retired since January 1, 2022, Emeritus Professor elected and re-elected by his peers since that date. He has been Knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit since 2013 and a Vermeil Medal from the French Academy of Agriculture since 2021.
