Srikanth Ravisankar is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University. After graduating medical school in India, he moved to the US and completed Pediatric residency and Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship training. Though he has varied research interests, his primary focus revolves around two areas- the role & regulation of tight junction proteins in the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and prevention of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in preterm neonates. He collaborates with a cell biologist and they have successfully replicated an established NEC mouse model to pursue research in tight junction proteins. He also leads the Golden hour quality improvement initiative in the NICU which has significantly decreased rates of IVH and positively impacted outcomes of preterm neonates. Additionally, he is very passionate about neurodevelopmental outcomes of extremely preterm neonates.
